It's June....the beginning of the Farmer's Market season in Logansport. Last fall I was invited as a guest for Logansport Reimagined. Among the fruits and vegetables there were also local artisens who were invited that made mead, fresh BBQ, jewelry, crocheted items, etc. Between the sunshine, people, food and the live music for entertainment, it was then that I decided to be a part of it.
I was welcomed with open arms when I attended the pre-season meeting to gather all the necessary information and, when I pulled into the lot this past Saturday, they knew I was serious about joining the crew.
There were probably 8 of us set up on the lot. Definately small for a Market but with the weather and the late planting season, they do what they can.
No one expected to see an art booth at the local market among the radishes and swiss chard but many were excited to stop by and chat. I met so many kind and interesting people that day. There was a man named "David" who happiy visited each booth to meet new people and pick up his fresh produce for the week. His theory is, If you eat according to God's plan, the way that He intended, you will not have to worry about sickness. When you cook your food, you loose the vital nutrients the Lord placed there. "Animals don't cook their food--they don't get cancer."
Another gentleman making his rounds spun stories of being a fantastic artist. He would travel the country to big cities like Chicago and participate in lavish art shows, sometimes as a participant, sometimes as a judge. Many times he was dismissed by other artists who were too busy to talk to him---not knowing he would ultimately be judging their work later. When I asked him why he stopped doing something so adventurous, he simply stated that he was very good at what he did and made alot of money at it. He no longer needed money, so there was no need to work anymore. I asked his name before he left... unsure if he was just a fantastic storyteller or legitimately a retired nationally recognized artist. Today I Googled him just to see.......
Let me just say that I was humbled and honored. Our city is home to many amazing people. We just need the opportunity to meet them. I will definately be there next week as long as the weather holds out.
